Day of the Dead at Casa Goliana (2026): The House, the Ofrenda and San Ángel

By the Casa Goliana team, Roma Norte, Mexico City. 20 October 2026.

Casa Goliana is already decorated for Día de Muertos: the house was ready on 19 October 2026, almost two weeks before the holiday itself on 1 and 2 November. If you stay with us this season, you will see it from the moment you walk in at Guanajuato 199.

What is left to decorate: the balconies

The balconies facing the street are the one part we finish at the last moment. October can still bring afternoon rain to Mexico City, and flowers and paper outside do not survive a downpour, so we wait for the weather to settle before dressing them.

What goes on a Day of the Dead ofrenda?

An ofrenda is the altar families set up to welcome back the dead on 1 and 2 November. Most include cempasúchil (Mexican marigold), papel picado, candles, pan de muerto, sugar skulls, water, salt, copal and photographs of the people being remembered, along with food and drink they liked.

Worth the trip: San Ángel’s circuit of five museums

If you want one Day of the Dead outing beyond the parade and the Zócalo, our pick is San Ángel, in the south of the city. Under the name Vive San Ángel, its five museums each build a different ofrenda from 17 October to 8 November 2026: Casa del Risco, the Carrillo Gil, the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo studio-house, El Carmen and the Soumaya at Plaza Loreto. Together they make an afternoon that feels very different from the crowds downtown. Metrobús Line 1 runs down Avenida Insurgentes from the edge of Roma Norte to San Ángel. Dates for each museum are in our Day of the Dead 2026 guide, and we have the programme at the house.

When is Day of the Dead 2026 in Mexico City?

Día de Muertos falls on 1 and 2 November; in 2026 that is a Sunday and a Monday. The city’s Day of the Dead parade is expected on Saturday 31 October along Paseo de la Reforma, which is reachable on foot from Roma Norte. Our complete Day of the Dead 2026 guide has the parade, the Zócalo ofrenda and Mixquic, and where to stay for Day of the Dead covers booking ahead.
